Newburgh, NY– The Brooklyn College women's tennis team opened its 2026 season on Saturday afternoon, falling to Mount Saint Mary College, 5-2, in a non-conference matchup on the road. Mt. St. Mary improves to 1-0 to start their season. Next Up: Brooklyn will look to bounce back in their Home Opener against Purchase College on Tuesday, September 8, at 3pm.
The Bulldogs picked up a doubles victory at the No. 2 position as Aniyah James and Amara Stewart earned a commanding 6-1 win over Mount Saint Mary's Megan Mann and Chloe Graham.
In singles competition, Brooklyn earned both of its victories in straight sets. Medina Kuc cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Megan Mann at No. 3 singles, while Stewart was equally impressive at the No. 5 position, defeating Maria BenicioVentura, 6-0, 6-4.
At No. 1 doubles, Alexis Goodman and Kuc battled Sydney Sladicka and Autumn Strobach in a closely contested match before falling, 7-6. Mount Saint Mary also captured the No. 3 doubles match, 6-3.
In singles play, Goodman fell at the No. 1 spot, while James dropped a competitive three-set match at No. 2 singles after taking the opening set. Kristen Vega, competing at No. 4 singles, and Amar Abdel Gaphar at No. 6 singles also battled in their respective matches.
