Media, PA---Despite controlling the majority of the final 45 minutes of play, the Brooklyn College women's soccer team wasn't able to erase a 2-0 halftime deficit at Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday as the Bulldogs eventually fell to the Nittany Lions, 2-1. BC drops to 0-4-2 with the non-conference loss while Penn State Brandywine improved to 3-4-0. Next Up: Brooklyn will look for their first win of the season at St. Elizabeth University on Saturday at 2:00 pm. Â
Penn State Brandywine opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Addisyn Fluckey converted a penalty kick to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
The Lions added to their lead just under six minutes later. Fluckey assisted on a goal by Ava Jackson in the 30th minute, giving Penn State Brandywine a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Brooklyn goalkeeper April Hartje kept the Bulldogs within striking distance in the opening half, making a save on Peyton Lill's attempt in the 14th minute. Scarlett Davis and Audrey Jane Young also tested the Penn State Brandywine defense before halftime, with Davis forcing a save in the 24th minute and Young doing the same in the 38th minute.
The Bulldogs came out with increased pressure after the break.
Young recorded Brooklyn's first shot of the second half in the 49th minute, but Penn State Brandywine goalkeeper Adrianna Gorbatuk made the save. Alondra Vega Varela followed with another shot on target in the 53rd minute.
Brooklyn finally broke through in the 56th minute. Gianna DiPronio finished a pass from Aissa Santos Lopez, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and giving the Bulldogs renewed momentum.
Santos Lopez nearly tied the match moments later, putting a shot on target in the 59th minute that was saved by Gorbatuk.
Brooklyn continued to apply pressure throughout the final 20 minutes. Krista Strader recorded a shot in the 74th minute, while Young and Kaylenn Arias each put attempts just wide. Vega Varela forced another save in the 86th minute as the Bulldogs continued searching for the equalizer.
Brooklyn outshot Penn State Brandywine 12-5 overall and held a 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Bulldogs also earned two corner kicks, matching the Lions' total.
Hartje finished with one save for Brooklyn, while Gorbatuk recorded seven saves for Penn State Brandywine.
