Brooklyn, NY---In search of their first win of the season, BC Women's Tennis will have to wait until their next match as the Bulldogs dropped a close one, 4-3, to St. Joseph's Long Island at home on Tuesday. Brooklyn drops to 0-3 overall with the non-conference loss while the Golden Eagles improve to 1-2. Next Up: The Bulldogs remain home for another non-conference match against Mt. St. Vincent on Thursday at 4pm. Â
Brooklyn opened doubles play with a strong performance at No. 1, as Alexis Goodman and Medina Kuc defeated St. Joseph's Amanda Andree and Kayla Mansfield, 6-3. The Golden Eagles answered at No. 2 doubles, with Rachel Wind and Victoria Arent defeating Brooklyn's Aniyah James and Amara Stewart, 6-4. St. Joseph's Emily Messana and Kaitlyn Russo then secured the doubles point with a 6-1 victory over Amar Abdel Gaphar and Tiffany Edwards at No. 3.
Trailing 1-0 heading into singles, Brooklyn responded with three victories.
At No. 1 singles, Goodman delivered a comeback performance, defeating Andree 7-5, 6-0. James followed at No. 2 singles, rallying after dropping the opening set to defeat Wind 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 3 singles, Kuc also battled to a straight-set victory, defeating Mansfield 7-5, 6-3.
St. Joseph's secured the remaining singles matches to edge the Bulldogs, with Amanda Barile defeating Stewart 7-5, 6-1 at No. 4, Arent defeating Kristen Vega 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5, and Russo defeating Edwards 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
