Brooklyn, NY---The NCAA Woman of the Year program was established in 1991 and honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions. This year, Brooklyn College has nominated three-sport student-athlete, Anna Curran. Curran will now be in a national pool across all three divisions (Division I, Division II, and Division III). The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee identifies the Top 30 – 10 from each division –and from there selects three finalists from each division. From the nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then selects the NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named later this fall.
Most recently named a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC), the multi-sport student-athlete holds a 3.5 grade-point average as an Exercise Science major. Curran is a member of the Bulldogs' women's soccer, softball and swimming programs.
As a member of the women's soccer team, Curran racked up six goals and six assists for 18 points in 39 career appearances. Anna guided the Bulldogs to the CUNYAC Women's Soccer Championship Game in 2016 and semifinals in 2019.
On the softball field, Curran played 80 games in a Bulldogs uniform, pacing the squad in hits, doubles and assists in 2019.
Curran has been just as busy outside of competition during her time at Brooklyn College, serving as the institution's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President. Anna has also excelled in photography, having one of her photos nominated for CUNY Photo of the Year. In addition, Anna has volunteered for a number of community service and campus projects and events from serving Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless to coaching in youth sports clinics.
For her sportsmanship, dedication and leadership, Anna was voted 2020 Athlete of the Year at the Make a Difference Awards ceremony presented by the Brooklyn College Division of Student Affairs.
Anna has aspirations of becoming a Physical Therapist or Athletic Trainer following graduation.
