SAAC Visits New York Methodist Hospital's Children's Ward
In what has become an annual tradition, members of the Brooklyn College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) visited the Children’s Ward of New York Methodist Hospital on April 23, 2010.
The student-athletes brought gifts for the children and engaged in some friendly conversation, which included topics ranging from sports to college life. Many of the children visited were sports fans and were excited to have a visit from a group of college athletes.
Not only did the children at New York Methodist gain something from the experience, but the student-athletes benefited as well. “I never realized what a positive impact my fellow classmates and I could have on children who are currently going through such a rough time in their lives,” said sophomore Jacqueline Spuntz, who is a member of the Women’s Volleyball Team and also serves as the SAAC President.
Junior Brian O’Shea, a member of the Men’s Basketball Team, was touched by the visit. “It was a very honorable and humbling experience being able to bring smiles to the kids' faces,” said O’Shea. “Hopefully we’ll get to bring more SAAC members next time and be able to visit more children.”
Spuntz and O’Shea were also joined by senior Thomas Guerin (Men’s Basketball), sophomore Kathleen Haggerty (Women’s Basketball) and freshman Karolina Gorna (Women’s Basketball).
